Mohun Bagan Announce Tentative Squad

It's been a day of reflief and jubilation for Mohun Bagan fans as the Prodigal Son cum Legend, Jose Ramirez Barreto, by far the best Bagan player of the decade has announced his decision to turn out for the Mariners in the 2006/07 season. Its time to Joga Bonito!

According to the Times of India Kolkata edition dated 30th May 2006, Baichung Bhutia, India captain and best player of the NFL in 2005/06 is also tipped to be signing for Bagan this season. Personally I'm not very pleased with this decision. He's a class act no doubt, but then he's played way too many seasons for EB. He should stay there and not ruin the sanctity of the Green and Maroon jersey, a replica of which i have had the recent fortune of acquiring. If he had any professional motivation, like a favored player or coach, or emotional motivation, as in Barreto's case, his move would have been justified but what can be said of a player for whom money is the sole motivation. Not to mention the fact that his transfer would also mean he would be dishonoring East Bengal's 2-year contract offered to him. This man really lacks character and all the class in the world cannot make up for that. I'm sorry Baichung, you don't deserve to be a Bagani.

Noel Wilson departure to Mohammedan is also a bit disappointing for me as I thought that despite his failure under Jahar Das he is a very good holding midfielder, the very kind needed to destroy opposition attacks and quickly launch counter attcks. But, the team management thought otherwise or maybe he felt he wasn't respect enough at Bagan. Whatever the case, Farewell mate.

The tentative squad according to ToI:

Goalies: Subrata Pal, Imran Khan, Sangram Mukherjee (Salgaocar)

Stoppers: Manas Das, Dulal Biswas, Sanjeev Maria, Mehrajuddin Wadoo, Adhiraj Singh, Eduardo Coelho, Deepak Mondal (Mahindra), Dhanraj Ravanan (Dempo)

Midfielders : Mehtab Hossain (WHOOP!), Dharamjit Singh, Tomba Singh, Chinmoy Sarkar,Basudeb 'Legend' Mondal, Sushil Singh, Subhas Chakraborty (Mahindra), Satyajit Bose (Mohammedan), Gautam Debnath (Mohammedan), Suman Dutta (Mohammedan), Micky Fernandes (Salgaocar)

Forwards: Sushil Singh, Jose Ramirez Barreto (Mahindra) , Baichung Bhutia (East Bengal), Surajit Bose (Mahindra) , Ayan Chowdhury (Tollygunge)

Positions Unknown:
From Ever-Ready: Lal Kamal Bhowmick
From TFA: Shilton Paul, Lalam Puiya
